All training horses are started in a round pen. I spend the first couple of days working on ground manners, desensitizing, and giving the horse tools to work with when I go to put that first ride on them. After the initial saddling, I generally ride the horse in the round pen for a couple of days before slowly progressing out to the arena. For the majority of thirty day horses, we spend a lot of time in the arena. I take them outside on the last couple of rides, after we have a firm foundation, to make the transition a natural one.
Currently I take all types of horses, including starting horses, problem horses, barrel horses, reiners, etc. I love the opportunity to take a horse completely from start to finish. When they are finished a horse should be a light, willing partner; ready to take you wherever your heart desires.
